(This blog post might be a little lengthy for some so I tried to break up everything as much as possible. This post is long due to how big the story is. If you are caught up on most of the drama happening with Hyuna and E’Dawn’s relationship, feel free to read the subheads to read the parts you might haven’t heard about yet. Enjoy!)
When K-Pop Idols Date
Though falling in love and dating arises as a natural action for humans, the topic exists as a sensitive idea for K-pop fans. Within the K-pop world, fans have trouble hearing about their bias dating another idol. Instead of wanting their beloved K-pop idol to be happy, fans take to social media to threaten their relationships. There has been much evidence that proves just how powerful fans hatred for K-pop relationships can be. One recent and major dating scandal that exemplifies K-pop fans rage for idol relationship comes from solo artist Hyuna and Pentagon’s E’Dawns recent confession of their 2-year relationship.
Hyuna and E’Dawn’s Real Life Romeo and Juliet Love Story
How It All Started
When news came out from Cube Entertainment that a new unit group was in the works of being formed, fans highly anticipated the company to reveal which Cube idols would be drafted into the group. It was announced in 2017 that Cube’s solo artist Hyuna and boy group members E’Dawn and Hui would make up the new unit group, Triple H. Fans were ecstatic and the unit group rose to fame with their single “365 Fresh.” As time went on the fans started to particularly notice the close-knit friendship between E’Dawn and Hyuna and ultimately started hoping the two would get together in real life. Fans grew suspicious from of Hyuna and E’Dawn and speculated that they were secretly dating. Although fans shared their curiosity, Cube never confirmed the relationship and neither did Hyuna or E’Dawn.
Where it Went Wrong
On July 18, 2018, Triple H released their newest single “Retro Future.” The unit group promoted their new song as normal, posting on social media, performing the new song live, and participating in various interviews. All was going well for Triple H’s comeback until August when Hyuna and E’Dawn announced to their fans that they have been dating for 2-years. The couple stated that they finally decided to make their relationship public because they wanted to promote and perform confidently to their fans. Although fans wished the two idols would form an affectionate relationship, their wishes quickly turned to hate for the two. It was not that fans were upset the idols were dating, but merely upset because of how Hyuna and E’Dawn hid their relationship.
Feeling the Pressure of Angry Fans
After realizing their relationship was not being well received from the fans, Hyuna took to Instagram to write an apology for her fans:
Translation:
“I really wanted to be honest. As always, for the fans that always cheered and watched over me, I want to stand on stage and do well like I always do. Simply saying thank you and I love you doesn’t do it, but I have no other way of expressing myself.” (Quote source: hyunah_aa)
E’Dawn also made an apology statement about their relationship and thanked his fellow Pentagon members for helping keep his dating life a secret. E’Dawn shares that he felt guilty for having his members hold his relationship with Hyuna in the dark as it could have a negative impact on his group.
How Does K-Pop Company Protect Their Artist?
E’Dawn VS Cube Entertainment
Despite the strict “No dating rule” enforced by K-Pop entertainment companies, there are many instances where K-Pop idols successfully announce their relationship with their company confirming it to the public. Though dating among k-pop idols has become more excepting in entertainment companies, Hyuna and E’Dawn’s relationship has received nothing but disapproval from theirs (Cube Entertainment).
E’Dawn’s was held back by his company from participating in his group Pentagon’s activities and promotions. Cube’s decision to keep E’Dawn from the public eye most likely derives from the fans petition to kick E’Dawn out of Pentagon.
With the situation between E’Dawn, his fans, and Cube Entertainment growing worse and worse, Pentagon emerged with a comeback single “Naughty Boy” without E’Dawn.
Finding Out the Worst Through Social Media
On September 13, Cube Entertainment released a statement saying that they have decided to let go of their artist Hyuna and E’Dawn merely because they claim that they can not trust the two anymore after their secret relationship.
This is Cube Entertainment.
Cube Entertainment has officially decided to remove our artists HyunA and E’Dawn from the label.
When managing our artists, the company has worked with faith and trust in each other as the main priority.
After numerous discussions, it is with great pain that we have come to the conclusion that it will prove difficult for us to rebuild the broken loyalty and trust between these two artists, HyunA and E’Dawn; so their removal has been decided.
We sincerely thank fans who have been with the two artists all this time.
Thank you”.

Later after news got out that the two artists were being fired from their company, reports state that Hyuna and E’Dawn had no idea that their departure was even in discussion and only found out about the situation through social media.
Hearing the shocking statement, fans suddenly change from wanting the two gone from the company to begging Cube to let them stay. Many find the firing of Hyuna and E’Dawn so ridiculous that they started creating memes of the situation. The whole news of the artists being let go is ridiculous due to Hyuna being with the company since 2009 and bringing the most money as she is one of the most famous artists in Korea.

- Fans claim that this is what is happening in Cube Entertainment after losing tons of money from kicking out E’Dawn and Hyuna
After announcing the decision to have Hyuna and E’Dawn depart from the company, Cube Entertainment unexpectedly released another statement sharing that they have not decided on whether or not they will fire the two artists.
Personal Opinion
Hello everyone! I know this post was pretty long, however, I just feel that this situation between Hyuna and E’Dawn and their company is so absurd. I feel so bad that two humans have to face harsh comments and treatment from others simply because they are dating.
I honestly find the whole “No dating” rule in K-pop ridiculous. I find it strange that K-pop idols have to announce their relationship to their fans. I think that idols should not have to explain to the world that they are dating because dating is a natural thing. I also find it strange that idols have to have their companies make a confirmation to the public about their relationship to make it true. Having a companies share that a relationship is true sounds like a couple would not be allowed to date unless approved by their companies.
I just can not believe that Hyuna and E’Dawn had to release an apology to their fans for simply loving another human being. I wish Hyuna and E’Dawn the best and I hope they will not break-up just because of the incident treatment they are receiving.
Do you think Hyuna and E’Dawn were wrong in hiding their relationship? Do you think Hyuna and E’Dawn should be kicked out of their company for dating? Comment your opinions! I would LOVE to hear from you all!
